Camilla Georgia & Mitchell County Area History

Named as one of the top tennis towns in America by Racquet Magazine,
Camilla Georgia is famous for its 4-day charity tennis tournament

Created from part of Baker County in 1857,
Mitchell County is named in honor of General
Henry Mitchell. General Mitchell presided over the Georgia senate for many years and was a leader in the movement for independence during the Revolutionary War.

Camilla itself was named after Mitchell's granddaughter.
  
Historic McRee Hall is an old family mansion that has been restored to all its elegance and Southern charm. It is now a bed and breakfast with a fine dining restaurant and adjacent conference center in its restored carriage and smokehouse.
